Hutt Flippa Ball Clinics
 April School Holidays

 26 - 29 Apr 2005

Naenae Olympic Pool, Hutt City

Published: 29th Apr 2005
The Hutt Water Polo Club held two Flippa Ball clinics at Nae Nae over the last week that went down well with children and parents.

Timed to co-incide with the school holidays, these clinics catered for children aged 7-12 years old and were run in two parts. The first clinic, "Learn to play Flippa Ball" provided an introduction for beginners and was held over Tuesday and Wednesday. The second, "Advanced Flippa Ball" was for players to improve and refine flippa ball skills, and was held over Thursday and Friday.

Attendance to each clinic cost just $40 per child, or $60 for both clinics, which provided a healthy, instructional and social activity for children while on their school holidays - without hitting the parents pocket too hard. Over fifty children registered for the two clinics.

Attendees were expertly coached by the club's own members:
Becky McGuinness (2005 National Women's Team)
Charlotte Wainwright (2004 National Under-15 Team)
Lauren Millar (2004 National Under-15 Team)
Kelly Gilmer (2002 National Under-15 Team)
Liam Gilmer (participates in U16 through to Senior National League)

At the end of each clinic, each child was given a Certificate of Completion together with a water polo badge and all went away happy with newly learned skills and knowledge about the sport of water polo :- some comments from kids were:
"that was cool" , "I loved playing the games" and "that was just neat".

The coaches were very impressed with the talent of the children. So much so that it made it very difficult to select a girl and boy from each Clinic to receive a Six Month Scholarship with Hutt Water Polo Club.

The recipients were:
Learn to Play Girl:  Morgan Archer
Learn to Play Boy:  Rhett Davis
Advanced Girl:  Sophie Rattray
Advanced Boy:  Connor Hawkins

The feedback from parents has been very positive and encouraging with many commenting on how impressed they were with the calibre of the coaches.

The Hutt Club will make this an annual event.  It is also looking at taking this successful programme to other pools in the region during the year.

Photos from the four days can be found on the Hutt Club website here.
